## How to set up Power Automate in VS Code

Before you start: a Power Platform account with at least one environment, and an editor running GitHub Copilot or Claude.

2. Install the Power Automate MCP extension from the VS Code Marketplace. Cursor, VSCodium, and Windsurf: install from Open VSX.
3. Run the **Add Tenant Connection** command and paste your API key. Reload the window.
4. Ask your agent: *"List my Power Automate flows."* That's it. All 30+ FlowStudio MCP tools work from the editor.

## Power Automate as code

A Power Automate flow is Workflow Definition Language JSON under the designer, the JSON Microsoft uses to define a flow. FlowStudio MCP hands that definition to your agent, so you can work with the flow as code from your editor. You don't hand-edit the JSON yourself. You describe the change in plain English, and the agent rewrites the definition and deploys it for you to review.
